Residents of Stockton, Tracy, Lodi, Modesto, and Elk Grove can now take advantage of valuable grants aimed at making hybrids and EVs more affordable.

Through the Valley Air District’s program, eligible vehicle owners can replace older, high-polluting vehicles with newer, cleaner models—or upgrade to a hybrid or electric vehicle. This program is available to residents within the jurisdiction of the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District who meet income and vehicle requirements.

Toyota Town of Stockton & ValleyCAN: Your Path to Cleaner, Greener Driving

Toyota Town of Stockton is proud to partner with ValleyCAN to make upgrading to a hybrid or electric vehicle more accessible and affordable. With this exciting program, eligible residents can replace their older, high-polluting vehicles with cleaner, more efficient models. Here’s how it works and what you’ll need to get started!

HOW IT WORKS

1. Get Approved
   After your application is approved, you’re ready to shop for a newer, cleaner car at Toyota Town of Stockton or another authorized dealer.
2. Incentive Check for Your Down Payment
   The ValleyCAN program provides an incentive check for your vehicle’s down payment. The amount you receive depends on your income level and the type of replacement vehicle you purchase. Cleaner vehicles, like hybrids and EVs, qualify for higher incentives, so we encourage upgrading to the cleanest models possible.
3. Shop for a Replacement Vehicle
   Choose a vehicle that meets program requirements:
   -Model year 2018 or newer
   -Meets MPG standards (see FAQ for details)
4. Retire Your Old Vehicle
   On the day you take home your new car, your old vehicle will be retired. All retired vehicles are destroyed and recycled to eliminate their impact on the Valley’s air quality.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

1. Current Vehicle
   -Model year 2006 or older (e.g., 2005, 2004, etc.)
   -Gas-powered and operational
   -Used in California for the past 2 years
   -Owned under your name for at least 6 months
2. Income
   – Household income must be at or below 300% of the federal poverty level.
   – Provide a copy of your most recent tax return or W-2 to verify income and household size.
3. Residence
   -Must reside within the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District jurisdiction.
   -Residents in designated “Disadvantaged Communities” (DAC) may qualify for higher incentives. Contact us to see if your address qualifies!

REQUESTED DOCUMENTS

To ensure a smooth application process, be prepared to provide the following:
1. Two years of California vehicle registration (2022 through present)
2. Vehicle Title
3. Must show at least 6 months of ownership under your name.
4. First two pages of last year’s 1040 tax return
5. Social Security Number can be covered.
6. Current PG&E or SoCal Edison bill
7. The bill does not need to be in your name.
8. Valid California Driver’s License
